I'm sure by now you are tired of reading about our kitchen remodel...I know I am!
It only took about 7 months to finish, but we are finally DONE!
Back in November, our neighbor who does kitchens helped us order cabinets from Ikea and he was going to put them together for us.
Then my husband decided to get a bid to see how much it would cost to extend our wall out six feet. This is when the project got a whole lot bigger, longer and more expensive!

This was the plan...
It was also a fun area to decorate...
Sorry this was such a LONG post, but this was a LONG project!
In the end, it was worth the time and stress.
I am thrilled with how it turned out!
It's always nice when you go through a remodel and it turns out better than you imagined.
Here is one more before & after because I LOVE a good before and after!

This was the plan...
DURING...
My husband tore out the decorative drop down ceiling.
I wish we had done that years ago, it really opened up the space.
I wish we had done that years ago, it really opened up the space.
Then we started with the total tear out of our old kitchen.
They started the extension of our kitchen/Dining room six feet...
We lived with plastic walls for a few weeks...
It was so shocking how much the the six foot addition opened up the whole kitchen...
We put the kids to work adding to our existing wood floors...
We lived in chaos for MONTHS, but it was worth it in the end.
I still can't believe this is even the same house!

You can read more about our fireplace makeover HERE.
It was also quite an amazing transformation!
Our contractor Jesse completed the addition, the woodwork on our fireplace, windows, baseboards, pillars and ceiling.
I don't think you can ever go wrong adding woodwork!
It totally changes the whole look and feel of a room.
Here are some of my favorite parts of the kitchen:
The ceiling...
We did a planked ceiling with beams.
It added so much character and made the whole room feel bigger.
It did add to the cost, but I'm so glad we did it!
The Island...
It turned out huge!
This side is totally functioning and even has a garbage can drawer...
This was another great decision!
Jeff, our cabinet guy, made our corbels and oven hood and they turned out AMAZING!!!
I can't believe how much character they add...
I had add to add one more picture...
I was shocked at how gorgeous the hood turned out!
It's even more beautiful in person...
I love the shelf and corbels!
The corbels on the bottom match the corbels on the island.
The farmhouse sink...
It's a single bowl and I love how much room there is!
All of our cabinets and hardware are from Ikea.
They are the Adel cabinets in white.
Our cabinet guy added the crown molding to the top, which made them look more custom.
I love the cabinets and drawers!
They are easy to wipe clean & the cupboards and drawers are all soft close, which is surprisingly nice!
We also ordered our countertops from Ikea.
They are quartz and the color was nougat.
In this post I shared where I had purchased my faucet and pendant lights. This post has a link to where my stools were purchased.
I love that with the added space, our table isn't right up by the window anymore. It was also a fun area to decorate...
This is where I added a pop of color to our all white kitchen!
In the end, it was worth the time and stress.
I am thrilled with how it turned out!

Amazing! My favorite detail is the ceiling over the dining room table,
ReplyDeletePerfect photo title because this is an absolutely stunning transformation! I love all the details. The woodwork, pendants and hardware are all beautiful! It looks so fresh and clean with all the white, but I love that you went with darker hardware and floors for some interesting contrast.
ReplyDeleteFabulous!!!! I love it all!!
ReplyDeleteSally, it looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh Wow! This may be my dream kitchen. I think I would wait close to a year for a reno like this to be done...just because it is so amazing!

GORGEOUS!!! I love every last detail.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome kitchen now. I could spend hours in there - love the added space. The ceiling and beams make it look really amazing! Thank goodness all the mess is done with now. Those columns look great too. We have a small kitchen and I've thought about pushing out the back of our house, but wondered if it would be way too expensive and easier to just move.
ReplyDeleteOh one other thing, I'd be interested in seeing the finished back side of your house now that the addition has been added - another post perhaps. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely post pictures soon! We just have to wrap a few of the wood poles & then I'll post a few pictures
ReplyDeleteOh my gracious! Awesome remodel! The hood, the details in the woodwork at the ends of the island, the hardware are all beautiful! I have kitchen envy!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely incredible transformation! Love the oven hood, corbels, and custom crown on Ikea cabinets. Pure genius. Wow. Just wow. This is perfection!
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome, can you please tell me the source for the floors you used ?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic job you did. I love the ceiling especially as it really takes the whole kitchen up a notch.
ReplyDeleteI love the new look of your modern kitchen! You definitely have more space in your kitchen/dining room. I love the white finishes.
ReplyDeleteThis is a GORGEOUS makeover. I love everything about it!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning!!! What an incredible transformation! Love it.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen, family room, and fireplace transformations are just amazing!! That gives me the encouragement I need while we are looking for a house and not necessarily finding what we like. I am going to use your posts as inspiration because I love absolutely everything about what you did. Can you tell me the paint color? It's just perfect and I know that grays can be very tricky to pick out.
ReplyDeleteWe had Sherwin Williams color match the color to the Benjamin Moore paint color Pelican Gray. I really love how it turned out! Good luck with the house hunting and thank you for the sweet comment!!
DeleteWow really beautiful! We completely gutted put house and remodeled it. It is so hard but so worth it! We did the entire house so the kitchen didn't get quite as much attention as I would have liked but it's WAY better than before! Yours is amazing with all those details!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! So beautiful!! A few weeks ago I moved into a new house and I'm planning on redoing the kitchen - this is almost exactly what I want!
ReplyDeleteI would love to know where you got your pendants from. I am also doing white cabinets with black pulls and Nougat counters! :)
ReplyDeleteTasha- I actually got my pendant lights from Lowe's. I have the link in this blog post:

Good luck with your new kitchen!!
What a transformation! You make a good point that spending some additional money (if you can) is well worth it so that the end product is something that you truly love.
ReplyDeleteHi Sally, I'm visiting from "Hit me with your best shot" link party and had to comment. Your kitchen is absolutely gorgeous. We are in the beginning stages of adding a garage and mudroom/kitchen addition and your kitchen is exactly what I am envisioning. I would love for you to link up to "Your Designs This Time" Monday morning at 8:00!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Love everything! Pinning!

ReplyDeleteWhat a HUGE transformation! I love everything and I am definitely PINNING!
ReplyDeleteStunningly gorgeous! I love the growed up country look. :) Would love to see you share at The Weekend re-Treat Link Party tonight! www.akadesign.ca
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing transformation, I love the white cupboards and the addition makes it look like a completely different house, you did a wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteJust beyond beautiful. It's amazing inspiration for the work we're about to undertake in our kitchen. It won't be nearly as drastic, but I hope it turns out half as beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow! Your space is so beautiful. Well worth the wait! I am curious as to how well you feel the cabinets are holding up. I have bought Ikea furniture in the past but consider it a temporary solution. We will be redoing our kitchen next year and I really love their white cabinets like the ones in your kitchen. I am worried about having them fall apart like some of the furniture. I really would like to hear your experience. Thank you so much. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love the cabinets! I was worried about the same thing! I was afraid they might not hold up too well, but our cabinet guy said, they are totally different from the furniture. They are a great quality & the hardware for the cabinets are also a very good quality. I am actually going to be doing a post soon about what I love about my Ikea cabinets...so far, I'm VERY happy with the quality!
DeleteThis is amazing! It is hard to believe that the before and after photos are of the same space. What a beautiful kitchen, I love everything about it, but that ceiling has me drooling!!
ReplyDeleteWOW. What a difference. I love it.
ReplyDeleteOh I love it - turned out beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! We opted for the single tub sink too- isn't it fabulous??!!! I love the space. Dying over the ceiling!!! Stunning!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous. Would you mind sharing about how much it cost to knock out your wall 6"? I'm struggling with buying a home with a kitchen I could remodel without doing the same thing, and I want to have a general idea of what the budget might look like to do that. I understand if you're not willing to share that. if you are, you can e-mail it to me if you're more comfortable: shellrock1@aol.com
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous transformation! I love white kitchens, too! They are so crisp, bright, and clean! Thanks SO much for linking up to Hit Me With Your Best Shot!

ReplyDeleteIf you get a chance will you link to Friday Favorites! Thanks for including the details on cabinets etc laura
Hi Sally- thanks for linking this up! it's a Friday Favs feature tomorrow! Would love to see you again this week! laura
ReplyDeleteWhat did your contractor add to the IKEA cabinet boxes to make them look so custom? Lovely job with the room!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning transformation! I love how you used the IKEA cabinets. Would you mind sharing the final dimensions of the kitchen (wall to wall from sink backsplash to back of cabinets/from wall behind stove to seating edge of island/from wall behind stove to edge of edge of dining room)? Also how big did your island ultimately turn out to be? How much walking space do you have between your island and the counters? I'm so curious because this is the exact layout I've sketched for our remodel, and I love how spacious it looks in real life. But just so I don't get my hopes up, I want to see if your After kitchen is really just much bigger than what I have in my mind. Thank you so much for sharing, and again congratulations on a great result!
ReplyDeleteThis is truly a spectacular transformation - just gorgeous !!!
ReplyDeletexoxo
I am blown away by this transformation! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteShelley
OH. MY. Golly.
ReplyDeleteWow beyond wow. I can in shock this is the same place. You have to be so thrilled.
I wonder if the contractor would move to Columbus, Ohio for a while? I need them!
What a fantastic transformation, I love every little detail. I am re-doing my small kitchen and still in the planning stages trying to create as much storage as I can in a very small area. I am also going white and traditional style, I have smaller open plan area though so may use similar light fittings over my island but in clear glass. You must be so proud of the results, they are simply stunning.
ReplyDeleteLee visiting from Before and After Wednesday.
I absolutely love love love what you have done,it's beautiful. It's exactly how one day I want ours. I am visiting for The Dedicated House and am now a new follower

ReplyDeleteWOW!! It looks amazing and so high end! I need to do my kitchen but I haven't been able to make up my mind about it either. This is definitely inspiring. (Just as the fireplace is!) I do everything myself and wouldn't hire a carpenter, so I am dragging my feet about getting started. But I might come back here and look at your kitchen everyday to get my butt in gear. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis blog is really precious and super valuable. I beyond doubt appreciate efforts that you have helped lots of the people. Thanks

One of my friends just finished an amazing kitchen remodel. Kitchen tool blog
ReplyDeleteMy kitchen has a U-shaped layout, so these instructions will help me know a few tips for renovating it. You're right about how the kitchen island can make for a good buffet style dinner. Perhaps I should keep it and repaint my cabinets and add new flooring to make it look more modern. Thanks for posting this!
